“Spending
time together does not make a better church, but being together with this fellowship makes my time well spent.”
Elder Donald R. Hutchinson
Our theme for 2008 “It’s Your Year To Thrive” was truly a theme worth its weight in gold.
God has once again blessed us through another year. This year we have seen the hand of God transfer to this ministry the authority
and access to govern His affairs. Genesis 26:22, Isaac declares to the people …the Lord has given them room to thrive…
This year has allowed Tyrus the season it needed to recoup from a turbulent 2007. This year has not been a year of great
accomplishment but rather a year of great affirmation. God has allowed this ministry to catch its breath for the moment.
January, the new year, brought us a stable place in unstable times. The relocation
to the Worship Center at Jordan Crossing gives us a central location to impact the surrounding communities. Elder Donald declared
this would be “a year to thrive”, it was a call to the fellowship that your wait was over and if you could believe
God and work His word you would thrive in the land without strife. The 2008 Women’s Conference challenged us to seek God in better and bigger ways, with
the extended courtesy of Xavier University we were able to find a venue adequate enough to return in 2009! With the new venue
and collaboration of local vendors and employment companies, “The Letter” proved to
be practical as well as spiritual. We are excited about 2009 with the new location and new name of the conference... New
Direction.
Doing something new was obviously what God had in mind when Tyrus introduced
“The Seven Next Words of Christ”, which we believed opened a new chapter in church fellowship. God has not only
opened a new chapter, but added new faces. We have seen people from denominational and social backgrounds find home in Tyrus.
We realize the currency of heaven is words and that souls are the church’s deposit into God’s economy. We were
excited this year to see 10 baptisms, all at one time, for the cause of Christ. Glory to His name!
As the year continued throughout
the summer and fall months Elder Donald engaged us in really examining the principles of prayer. We have determined that God
has made this a safe place for all who want to come out the deluge of discouragement and despair. We also provided once again
our Bags of Blessings, an outreach program, which empowers families and students to arrive at school
with book bags and supplies. We also held our first annual Back To School Gospel Blowout in partnership with God’s Champion
Entertainment.
As you read this now we hope you can see how God has
reenergized us. We are excited, because in 2009 God has declared through Elder Donald it is our year to Get F.I.T.,
to take responsibility and accountability for God’s faithfulness in us. The question remains, will you get your faith,
your physique and your finances fit for your future?
